Developing an innovative biologically active cereal seed dressing to promote healthy and safe food production.

“BACTO-TECH” Sp. z o.o. is implementing under Measure 1.1 Strengthening Research and Innovation Potential, European Funds for Kuyavia and Pomerania Program 2021-2027 a project entitled “Development of an innovative biologically active cereal seed dressing to support the production of healthy and safe food”.
The aim of the project is to develop an innovative, biologically active preparation to improve seed health and promote germination and growth of cereals. The product will be used in the procedure of preparing seed for sowing.
The following tasks will be carried out in the implementation of the project:
A. Cost of Personnel: remuneration of the project team – Expert Microbiologist, Expert Microbiologist, Microbiologist, Technologist.
B. Apparatus and Equipment: it is planned to purchase a reactor with a capacity of 2,000 l and a mixing plant for commercial substrates.
C. External services (subcontracting): specialized service of connection and start-up of purchased equipment.
D. Materials: personal protective equipment (towels, protective masks, disinfectants, protective clothing.
The project will result in the development of an innovative, biologically active preparation to protect seed from pathogens and promote germination and growth of cereals. The product will be used in the procedure of preparing seed for sowing. The creation of the product will help solve the problems of the need to gradually eliminate plant protection products based on harmful chemicals (which is a result of the implementation of EU environmental policies), as well as insufficient effectiveness and high complexity in the use of existing biological preparations. The planned formulation will be a 100% biological formulation. The product will be characterized by versatility of protection – it will contain 4 strains of bacteria from the genus Bacillus, which will ensure a wide range of biological activity of the developed mortar.

Diagnosis and sanitation of crops under cover.

Creation of an innovative system for rapid diagnostics and microbiological sanitization of the production environment in cover crops (FENG.01.01-IP.02-1640/23)

The two modules planned for implementation are interrelated. The objective of the activities undertaken in the R&D Module is to develop a system for rapid diagnostics and microbiological sanitization of the production environment in cover crops, which is innovative on the international market.
The module will result in:
- 2 rapid molecular tests for diagnosing the presence of fungal and bacterial phytopathogens, greenhouse plants,
- 2 sanitizing biopreparations: 1 formulation containing microorganisms antagonistic to bacterial and fungal phytopathogens, and 1 sanitizing formulation containing pest-reducing microorganisms.
Tasks carried out under the R&D Module:
- Development of rapid diagnostic tests to quickly identify phytopathogens present in substrates and/or soil (industrial research).
- Selecting and acquiring microorganisms with antagonistic properties to acquired bacterial and fungal phytopathogens and limiting phytophages.
- Optimization of the culture conditions of the selected microorganisms and development of the composition of consortia.
- Development of formulation of utility mixtures.
- Confirm the effectiveness of the acquired microorganisms in sanitizing substrates, soil and production environments.
The purpose of the activities undertaken under the “Internationalization” Module is to secure the results of the work carried out in the R&D module on the market (by carrying out the procedure of obtaining patent protection for 3 inventions), as well as to promote and sell the newly developed products on the Polish and foreign markets.
As part of the “Internationalization” module, it is planned for the Beneficiary to participate as an exhibitor at five major industry trade fairs in Germany, France and Italy, where products (currently held by BACTO-TECH and planned to be manufactured into a product) will be promoted.
Tasks implemented under the “Internationalization” Module:
- Participation in international fairs held in Europe.
- Obtaining industrial property protection.
As a result of the project, there will be a reduction in the use of chemical plant protection products by about 30% compared to the status quo (reduction to 72.80 l/ha per year). The adopted indicator refers to the expected effect of the project result, which will be characterized by an increase in the efficiency of agricultural production or maintaining it at the same level, reducing the use of chemical plant protection products with natural preparations, which will directly affect the reduction of negative effects on the environment. In addition, as a result of the implementation of the project, it is planned to apply 3 inventions for patent protection, 4 innovative products will be created, and it is assumed that there will be an increase in revenue from the sale of new or improved products (R&D) and at the end of 2028 their value will be PLN 1,129,000.00.
The target groups of the project are both the society at large and the potential recipients of the innovative product, i.e.:
- greenhouse tomato producers,
- greenhouse cucumber producers,
- Producers of other greenhouse vegetables (peppers, eggplants, lettuce, radishes, others),
- Manufacturers of perennials, potted shrubs and other types of balcony and bedding plants,
- herbal plant producers.
The results of the project, therefore, respond to market demand from horticulturists, growers and distributors, who have to meet the ever-increasing demands of consumers of greenhouse-grown plants (vegetables, herbs, ornamentals).

The project concerned the development of precise, functional and bioactive microbially enriched fertilizers, which are expected to increase the efficiency of agricultural production, while reducing the use of fertilizers and their negative impact on the environment. The scope of work in the project carried out by Bacto-Tech included the acquisition of microorganism strains with the desired functional characteristics, development of an effective industrial technology for the production, separation and stabilization of microorganisms introduced into fertilizers, control of the viability of microorganisms introduced into fertilizers.

The project concerned the development of innovative, eco-friendly, household chemicals. The project involved obtaining soil microorganisms, developing conditions for their multiplication, separation, stabilization, and establishing technological conditions for combining them with fertilizer lime under high temperature conditions.
Scope of work performed by Bacto-Tech in the project:
Development of the final composition of consortia, taking into account the interactions between the microorganisms included in their composition; Development and optimization of methods for the culture of microorganisms, taking into account the composition and reaction of the medium, incubation temperature and aerobic conditions of culture, at laboratory and semi-technical scale; Determination of optimal conditions for the separation of cells from the culture liquid with preservation of the greatest degree of cell recovery and the greatest cell viability; Evaluation of the effect of the addition of lignite and humic compounds on microbial survival; Determination of the survival of microorganisms in fertilizer lime – evaluation of the effect of the moisture content of the granules, drying temperature and the method of application of microorganisms.
